Until quite recently, I was expecting my usual Christmas email would report, at least work-wise, another uneventfully busy year, which sounds oxymoronic but true. Events and projects came up one after another as usual, and I thought I would continue my work at the British Council like this for quite a while. But an opportunity arose towards the end this year. A few days before Christmas I joined the Hong Kong Arts Development Council as their Arts Promotion Manager, looking after, among other things, the Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival. It is perhaps still too early to say how I find this new job, and I think I can only tell what exactly I am doing after settling in.
Apart from work I do not recall anything particularly exciting. I strongly feel that I am loosing the peace of mind in creating something interesting, except for perhaps one or two film reviews. I know I should not blame my busy work life for this, as after all it is a matter of how passionate one is about other pursuits after work. I could not complain that I did not have time, for I did squeeze time for swimming, for the beach (which I had not visited for three years!), and for leisure trips to Taiwan (three times this year!), Germany and Jordan. I also spent time with friends exploring interesting places in Hong Kong during weekends and public holidays when I am not required to work. And for all these I should already be grateful.
Wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
